About the Organization & Community Impact

PossAbilities Thrift Boutique is a social enterprise of Abilities of Northwest Jersey, an organization that expands opportunities for people with disabilities. In addition to offering affordable secondhand goods, the boutiques provide vocational training, career exploration and opportunities for employment or volunteer experience in a real retail environment. Participants can develop customer-service, merchandising and other workplace skills while increasing independence and community involvement. Donated inventory is therefore central to both the shop and the training mission: usable estate goods become merchandise that supports a working learning environment rather than simply being discarded. For donors, the community benefit combines reuse, lower-cost shopping and practical skill development for people with disabilities. The three boutique locations share this broader mission even though their local inventory and intake capacity may differ.
