About the Organization & Community Impact
Old & New Thrift Shop is operated in support of Southern Ocean Medical Center through the hospital auxiliary tradition. Volunteer-run hospital thrift shops transform donated household goods into affordable resale merchandise and fundraising support for local healthcare. The Southern Ocean auxiliary has a long history of volunteer service and financial support for the medical center, so donations to the shop can continue to create value after leaving an estate: shoppers gain access to reasonably priced goods, usable property is kept in circulation, and the shop contributes to a community organization focused on patient care. For donors, the connection to a local hospital provides a clear charitable context, although item acceptance remains selective because volunteer-run shops have limited space and handling capacity.
